Professional Musicians Get In Tune For Oakland Concert Series OAKLAND, N.J. – Aaron Copland, known to many as “the Dean of American Composers” spent a few months in the 1940’s living in an Oakland farmhouse and composing his famous "Violin Sonata." This Sunday, people will have the opportunity to listen to a current Oakland resident, who also is the principal associate concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in Manhattan, perform the piece. “I have been looking for an opportunity to actually perform it in Oakland because it is really neat to think that the piece was conceived while he was staying in our town,” said Laura Hamilton. …

The Search Is On: Garfield Parents Look For Drug Paraphernalia GARFIELD, N.J. – Roughly 90 Garfield parents spent last Wednesday evening rifling through a teenager’s bedroom. But the bedroom didn’t actually belong to any of their children. It was a mock-room set up at Garfield Middle School to help parents learn more about drug paraphernalia or items that could be used to stash drugs. “Overall, we think that parents learned a lot. They gathered a lot of information, and came out much more informed than when they came in,” said Garfield Prevention Coalition Coordinator Iman Johnson, who helped facilitate the program. The event, dubbed “Hidden in Plain …

The building on Margaret King Avenue, and over an acre of land that surrounds it, is the new home of the Bloomingdale Regional Animal Shelter Society (BASS). “It is perfect for us,” Ellen Ribitzki, kennel manager for BASS, told Daily Voice during a recent tour of the space. “Instea…
