Former Fire Chief From Somers Dies: 'He Will Be Deeply Missed' A former chief of a fire department in Northern Westchester who remained active in serving the community has died. Irwin Schriro, the ex-chief of the Somers Volunteer Fire Department, died on Sunday, March 5 at the age of 63 following a short illness, the fire department announced. Originally joining the department in 1987, Schriro served as chief from both 1999-2001 and 2011-2014. Car Flips Over On Taconic State Parkway In Millwood, Driver Hospitalized One person was taken to a hospital after their vehicle flipped over on the Taconic State Parkway in Northern Westchester. The crash happened on Friday, March 3 just after noon when a car flipped over on the Taconic State Parkway southbound in Millwood just past the Exit 8 ramp, according to the Millwood Fire Department. The occupant of the vehicle was able to free themselves from the wreckage and was evaluated by personnel from Ossining EMS and the Millwood Fire Department. The driver was then taken to Westchester Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.

Police In Bedford Investigating Missing Persons Case Police in Northern Westchester are searching for a missing man who has not been seen for more than a week. Jorge Vasquez, age 37, was last seen at his home in Bedford on Old Post Road on Friday, Feb. 24 around 6 p.m., and has been missing since, according to the Bedford Police Department. He is described as a light-skinned Hispanic man who is 5 feet 4 inches tall and around 135 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Police did not have a description of his last known clothing. Prison Nurse Rapes Inmate At Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, Police Say A Connecticut man employed as a nurse at a New York prison is charged with raping an inmate, police say. The incident was originally reported by New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision officials at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in Northern Westchester in September 2022, state police said.
