Thousands Raised For Paralyzed Danbury Teen After Suicide Attempt: 'An Awesome Son' Community members are rallying to support the family of a 14-year-old Danbury boy who was paralyzed after a suicide attempt. The support is coming in the form of a GoFundMe page, which has raised thousands of dollars so far to benefit the family of Higor Santos, who attempted suicide by jumping off of a bridge in Danbury on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022. Man Nabbed For Stealing From Gas Station In Yorktown: Police A man faces larceny charges after stealing beer from a Northern Westchester gas station, police said. The incident happened on Monday, Jan. 23 around 9:30 a.m. In Yorktown, when police responded to the Coco Farms gas station located at 3700 Barger St. (Route 132) for a reported theft of a quantity of Modelo beer. After a brief investigation, police identified 31-year-old Brooklyn resident Felix Sosa as the suspect, and called him in for an interview. Fallen Wires Cause Brush Fire In Hudson Valley A brush fire caused by fallen power lines shuttered a road in the Hudson Valley until crews could put it out. The incident happened on Friday, Feb. 3, around 11 a.m. when firefighters and police in Putnam County responded to a fire in Mahopac located in the area of Croton Falls Road and Cole Drive. There, first responders found fallen power lines and a brush fire. Person Hospitalized After Vehicle Rolls Over, Hits Tree In Manchester One person was sent to a hospital after their vehicle rolled over and slammed into a tree by Interstate 384 in Hartford County. The crash happened on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 2, when the vehicle hit the tree and also became wedged against a guardrail, according to Manchester Fire Rescue EMS. Because the car was pinned, the occupant had to be extricated. Beloved Former Teacher For Katonah-Lewisboro School District Dies A former teacher who worked for schools in both Northern Westchester and Fairfield County has died. Margaret "Peggy" Beccaria died on Sunday, Jan. 15 at the age of 85, according to her obituary. A native of New Canaan, Beccaria graduated from high school there before attending college at Western Connecticut State University. She then became a teacher in Stamford. Duo Charged With Fatally Shooting 17-Year-Old In Mount Vernon, Police Say Two men have been charged with fatally shooting a 17-year-old in Westchester County nearly two years ago, police said. The shooting happened in Mount Vernon on May 6, 2021, around 10:40 a.m., when police found 17-year-old Anthony Boyd Jr. with gunshot wounds to his chest at 34 South 8th Ave. Boyd was then taken to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he later died. Yonkers Sex Offender Shares Child Porn On Social Media, Gets Years In Prison An already-registered sex offender from Westchester County was sentenced to years in prison for sharing child pornography on social media. Yonkers resident Demetrious Kotopoulos, age 41, was sentenced to three to six years in state prison for sharing and possessing child pornography, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah announced on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
