State Mishandled Domestic Violence Case Before Worker's Murder, Investigation Finds State agencies failed to follow their own domestic violence policies before a state worker was murdered, according to a new report from the New York State Inspector General’s office. Speaking at the state’s Crime Victims Memorial Thursday, April 28, Inspector General Lucy Lang said when the victim reached out for help, “it fell on deaf ears.” The woman, an employee with the state Office of Information Technology Services in Albany, was killed in September 2020 by her husband, a former worker at the state Office of General Services, before he took his own life, Lang said. Recall Issued For Polaris Recreational Off-Road Vehicles Due To Fire Hazard Polaris is recalling two of its off-road vehicles over concerns they may pose a fire danger, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced. The recall affects certain VINs of the company’s 2022 RZR Pro 4 Premium and Ultimate vehicles. Around 1,100 of the vehicles were sold at Polaris dealers across the US between May 2021 and April 2022, CPSC said. Man Sentenced For Bringing Gun To Albany International Airport A Capital Region man is heading to federal prison for attempting to bring a loaded handgun onto a plane at Albany International Airport. Josef Jarvis, age 32, of Albany, was sentenced to nearly four years behind bars Thursday, April 28, after pleading guilty to illegally carrying a firearm as a felon. Federal prosecutors said Jarvis admitted to possessing the loaded gun and ammunition while attempting to pass through a security checkpoint before boarding a flight in August 2021. Dog Found Dead In Area Park, Police Asking For Tips Police are investigating after a dog was found dead in a Schenectady park. The heartbreaking discovery was made at around 4 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Central Park, Schenectady police said in a statement. A park-goer found the dog’s body wrapped in a blanket and immediately called 911. Schenectady police and an Animal Control officer were dispatched to the scene. Search For Suspect Continues After Armed Robber Hits Long Island Gas Station Police continue to search for a suspect after an armed robbery at a Long Island gas station. The robbery happened late Wednesday, April 27 in North Merrick, at the BP station on Merrick Avenue, Nassau County Police said. 32-Year-Old From Capital Region Nabbed For Sexual Abuse Of Young Child, State Police Say A Capital Region man is behind bars, accused of sexually abusing a young child. Columbia County resident Ruben Martinez Cruz, age 32, of Valatie, is charged with felony criminal sexual act in the first degree, New York State Police said. Cruz was arrested Friday, April 22, after an investigation by State Police and the Columbia County Child Advocacy Center found that he sexually assaulted a victim under the age of 11, police said. He's currently being held at the Columbia County jail on a $100,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear back in court Tuesday, May 17.
