Dog Dies In Mount Vernon Apartment Fire: Incident Now Under Investigation Thanks to quick effort from firefighters, an apartment blaze in Westchester that caused the death of a small dog was kept from spreading to other floors or units in the building, officials said. The fire began at an apartment in Mount Vernon at 243 West 1st St. around 9 a.m., prompting Mount Vernon Fire Department crews to race to the building to contain the blaze. Person Taken To Hospital After Crash At Busy Croton-On-Hudson Intersection A person was injured in an early morning two-car crash at a busy Northern Westchester intersection, fire officials said. The incident happened on Monday, Jan. 22 around 7:40 a.m., when two vehicles collided at the intersection of South Riverside and Croton Point Avenues in Croton-on-Hudson, according to the village's fire department. Lifelong Firefighter, Northern Westchester Native Dies: 'His Legacy Will Undoubtedly Live On' A Hudson Valley resident who spent decades protecting his community as a firefighter is being remembered for his selflessness and outgoing nature. Putnam County resident Dennis Rotenberg of Garrison died on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the age of 71, according to his obituary. Car Goes Up In Flames On Busy Road In Millwood Firefighters had to use a supply of thousands of gallons of water to extinguish a car fire on a busy Northern Westchester road. The incident happened on Saturday, Jan. 20 around 1:30 p.m., when a vehicle caught on fire in Millwood on Route 100 (Somerstown Turnpike) in the area of Random Farms Drive. Ramp Between Cross County, Hutchinson River Parkways In Mount Vernon To Close: Here's When Motorists are being warned that a ramp between two busy parkways in Westchester will be affected by upcoming closures. The ramp from the eastbound Cross County Parkway to Exit 9 (southbound Hutchinson River Parkway) in Mount Vernon will close between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. on both Monday, Jan. 22, and Wednesday, Jan. 24, the New York State Department of Transportation announced. Driver Injured In Crash On Busy Road In Millwood A driver was injured after crashing into an embankment alongside a busy Northern Westchester road. The incident happened on Friday, Jan. 19 just before 7 p.m., when a vehicle crashed into an embankment next to Route 100 in Millwood, according to the Millwood Fire Department.
