Dusty Bathroom Fan Causes Smoke to Pour From Croton-On-Hudson Home Fire crews were called to a Northern Westchester home after a debris-covered bathroom fan caused smoke to pour out of the residence. The incident happened on Thursday, Oct. 19 around 7 p.m., when the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department responded to a home in the Harmon section of the village for a report of smoke coming from the ceiling of a residence. Beloved Crossing Guard Remembered By Port Chester Community: 'She Was Loved By All' A community in Westchester is mourning the loss of a much-loved school crossing guard who always took the time to talk with children and their families. The death of Connie Catalano, a crossing guard for Port Chester Public Schools, was announced by Port Chester Police in a social media post this week. Bear Spotted In Bedford Backyard: Here's Where A large black bear was spotted sauntering through a Northern Westchester backyard by a local resident. The bear was seen by a Bedford resident on Wednesday evening, Oct. 18 around 5:30 p.m. in a backyard in the area of Indian Hill Road and Cliffield Road. Trio Nabbed For Trafficking Cocaine Into Yonkers: 1 Caught With Child Porn, DA Says Three men will spend years in prison for trafficking narcotics into Westchester from another state, including one who was caught with child pornography on his cell phone, officials announced. CT Man Shot, Killed In Vermont: Suspect At Large, Police Say A 27-year-old Connecticut man was shot dead in an incident that happened in Northern Vermont, police said. The victim, 27-year-old Wilmer Rodriguez of Hartford, was killed in an incident that happened on Saturday, Oct. 14 in Newport Town, Vermont, according to Vermont State Police. Lane Closure: I-684 In Bedford To Be Affected An upcoming lane reduction is set to affect weekend traffic on part of a busy highway in Northern Westchester. Interstate 684 southbound in Bedford will be reduced to one lane between Exit 6 (Route 35) and Exit 4 (Route 172) on Saturday, Oct. 21, the New York State Department of Transportation announced. Off-Duty Yonkers Officer Accidentally Shoots Self In Eatery Restroom: Police An officer is recovering after accidentally shooting himself with his firearm in the bathroom of a Westchester restaurant while off-duty. Man Stopped From Jumping Off Highway Overpass In Yonkers: Police Thanks to quick action from officers, a man in distress was prevented from jumping off a highway overpass in Westchester and brought to safety. Crash Briefly Blocks Lanes On I-95 In New Rochelle A crash resulted in temporary lane closures on Interstate 95 in Westchester. This story has been updated. The crash, which happened on Friday morning, Oct. 20, briefly caused all southbound lanes of I-95 in New Rochelle between Exit 16 (North Avenue) and Exit 15 (Route 1) to be blocked, state police announced around 11 a.m. All lanes had reopened by 1:15 p.m., according to police.
